Rouge des Hautes Terres

The Origin

Grown at around 1600 metres above sea level in the Oromia region of south-west Ethiopia, this Limu is drawn from just six small farms, cultivating traditional Eastern African heirloom varieties.

It is a coffee that reminds us, quite simply, why Ethiopia is so often considered the birthplace of the craft.

Tasting notes

  • Fruity
  • Sweet
  • Winey

In the Cup

Expressive without becoming unruly. There is a natural, wine-like depth here, layered with soft fruit and a rounded sweetness. Full-bodied, yet balanced, with a gentle structure that carries the flavour rather than overwhelming it.

The Character

Fruity, winey and quietly complex. This is a coffee that unfolds rather than announces itself. It is best approached with a little time and attention.

An Older Conversation

There is fruit, certainly. A wine-like richness. A sweetness that arrives without urgency.

It is not a coffee that rushes you. It lingers instead, like a conversation that takes its time to become interesting.

Long before Paris became a city of cafés, Ethiopian coffee traditions were already built around ceremony and pacing. Coffee was a social act rather than a transaction. One may imagine that the Parisian habit of sitting, observing and letting time pass owes something - indirectly - to those earlier rhythms.
